Cherie, Diane and Theo with local Key West artist Rick Worth after taking TSKW's class: Painting Boot Camp. | Cherie and her painting of a local Key West residence. | Diane and Theo, owners of Key West's Coffee Plantation, with blank canvases. |
Cherie and Diane ready to begin their night of painting. | Theo Glorie and his art. | Diane painting. |
Notice that the class has just begun, but the wine glass is already empty. | Rick Worth instructing his students on Tuesday night in Key West. | Theo. |
Diane and Theo's houses start to take on color. | The only home Cherie "owns" is the one she painted. | Theo with his work of art. |
Diane puts on the finishing touches. | Loretta with a blank canvass on another Tuesday night. | What will we paint tonight? It is always a surprise. |
Here are some painting supplies: canvas, paintbrush, wine and snacks. | We each get five colors of paint to blend as we choose. | Loretta with her Koi fish. |
Cherie's Koi fish take on color. | Cherie's "almost finished" Koi fish painting...which will soon decorate the walls of her RV. | In two hours I hope that these will look like Koi fish. |

cherie writes: For over a century, artists have been drawn to Key West. Key West’s inspiration lay in her balmy climate and charming architecture, but it’s the people of Key West who make the city what it is. One Human Family is Key West’s motto. There’s no better place than to learn the art of painting than Key West.
I took my first (and second) painting class from Rick Worth, a local Key West artist who holds weekly 2 ½ hour classes at TSKW (The Studios of Key West.) Members who sign up for a month of classes pay $20 a class which includes: paint, canvass, brushes and instruction. After 180 minutes of instruction, which Rick calls “Painting Boot Camp”, everyone walks out with their own painting.
Thirty students sit in front of their blank canvasses while Rick gives lessons and walks around the class giving everyone personalized attention. The first week we painted Koi fish, while the second week we painted a local Key West residence. I took the class with my friends Diane, Theo and Loretta. None of us had ever painted before this class.
