"Ants can carry twenty times their own body weight, which is useful information if you're moving out and you need help getting a potato chip across town." -- Ron Darian

422--DC: Obama's Inaguration
@ CherieSpotting     Jan 25 2009 - 14:44 PST
cherie writes: The inauguration was equal parts amazing, frustrating and cold. Greg, Jean, Caitlyn and I had ticketed seats to the parade and arrived five hours early to be told that the gates were closed and no one else would be admitted. Desperately searching for an entrance, we walked around the entire mall.

The temperature was in the teens; the population was in the millions. To keep warm, I was sporting a homeless/terrorist with a jacket I bought at a local thrift store.
We ended up squishing our way onto the mall after Obama was inaugurated, while he was giving his speech. The national anthem started to play and everyone started singing. Can you imagine the energy of millions of people waving flags and singing the Star Spangled Banner together?

After the inauguration I gave up on the parade, gathered some friends, found a local pub, and watched the parade with a cold beer. The next day we went to the Supreme Court and watched the court proceedings and got front row seats in the Senate and watched Clinton get confirmed as Secretary of State. It was an experience we’ll never forget.
