There's not just sand on this sand-island. There are lakes, rivers, and rainforests. You can't swim in the sea (unless you'd like to be a snack for a tiger shark) but you can jump in one of the many fresh water lakes! It's a place where all the roads are sand and people often arrive to their offices via airplanes. Here are the photos of our 4x4 Jeep adventure where we came across wild dingoes, and spiders the size of your face. Hilda, Cherie and Diane on the ferry to Fraser Island. Mika takes over control of the ferry. When it is your first time driving a boat, you should always have lots of passengers. Watch out! Full speed ahead! Winding our way through the mangroves. Our first stop is a dip in a refreshing fresh water lake! Let's go swimming! The bus tire is ripped off the rim. Everyone off! Can Hilda fix it? Hurry, there are wild Dingoes roaming about. There's a dingo now. (Too bad he wouldn't smile for the photo.) We rent a 4x4 from a guy who arrives to the beach via airplane. Cherie, Hilda, Diane and the French guys (Pascal and Stefan) with our 4x4. Sandra and Katherine in their "cute" toy-like 4x4 we named 'little bear.' These ladies are serious about their sand. First stop..the ship wreck! Cherie, Hilda, Stefan, Diane and Pascal. Oh the lovely colors of rust. Cherie at the bow. Look over there! Hilda, Cherie and Diane. Being reclaimed by the elements. Stefan and Pascal. What's in hole number one? Making a splash in Fraser Island. Here come the ladies in the 'little bear'. A fountain of water arches off the tires. Lake Wabi. It's an oasis. How do trees live in sand? It's a mystery. Watch out for creepy crawlers. We have arrived at MacKenzie Lake. Bernadette and Chris give Fraser Island the thumbs up! *Photo by Peter. Ready for dinner? When you are walking around the rainforest in Fraser Island, you have to be careful of falling objects! Watch out Hilda! Now that's one heck of a foliage hat, Diane. Under the canopy of the rainforest, the trees block out the sun. The water is so clear and pure, you could make lemonade with it! Peter takes a scenic flight. Wild ferns grow without any soil. Diane gets phone service on the ferry back to reality. (She's saying something gushy-mushy to her boyfriend Justin.) Xoe soaks up the sun. (Zoe lives in England where summer is from August 11-13th.) Mind your head Hilda! If the sharks, spiders, and dingoes don't get you...the ferry will!
