"Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm." -- Sir Winston Churchill

213--Antigua: Boats & Beaches
@ CherieSpotting     May 15 2004 - 15:06 PST
cherie writes: There are friends, and there are acquaintances. Then there are the friends that you can spend two weeks on a boat with.

Conversations on a boat are like no other. After a difficult race, sailors ponder deep questions like: “If you kill your brain cells, does that mean you loose weight?”

Friends who sail together are like no other friends. If you can sail together under stressful conditions of a rough passage, under the screaming of intense racing and under the frustration of broken marine parts—this is a true and special type of friendship.

On a boat, you have no personal space. What do you do? Climb the mast for some alone time? Surprisingly (not really), after over two weeks in Antigua, my friends and I are all still on speaking terms.

To know your friends is to love them for who they are and who they aren’t. To really know your friends, is to live on a boat with them. I can say this: I know my friends, and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
