157--California: I Can Fly
@ CherieSpotting
Oct 21 2003 - 11:48 PST |
Cherie in a Paris Jet. | I didn't believe I could really learn to fly in just two hours--but I went to CFA to give it a try. | After taking a computer lesson for an hour, I'm ready for my first take-off. |
I unblindfold the plane. The Cessna is shocked to see that I will be its pilot. | Exactly 100 years after the Wright Bros create controlled, sustained flight, I make my first take-off. Better late than never. | Greg, my instructor, tests the fuel. |
Looks clear, but I prefer Vodka shots. | Do I look like a pilot? | We have lift-off. |
Who is flying the plane? | I'm flying! | What a beautiful plane. *Photo from the Cessna website. |
Cherie's first time in the pilot's seat. | Where am I supposed to land? | The landing makes me sweat a little. |
There's the airport! I found it! | Next time, I'm ready to fly the Paris Jet. | A photo from www.skylane.cessna.com |
cherie writes: $49 bucks doesn't go very far these days. It can get you dinner for two (no dessert or wine),or a pair of shoes (not name brand.) Or, for $49 you can learn to fly an airplane!
I took California Flight Academy up on its offer of $49 for an introductory flight. Chief instructor Greg Webster, sat me down with an interactive computer program that explained everything I would need to know about my first flight. Like Lenscrafters, it took about an hour.
Then Greg (the instructor) and I went out and checked out the Cessna I was about to have my first flight in. Greg performed a number of safety tasks and then I jumped in the pilot's seat. Greg (my boyfriend) sat in the back praying and taking the occasional photo.
It was incredible. It was pure freedom and exhileration. I took-off twice and made two landings. Then I spent the remainder of my hour in the sky doing 360s and other terrifying manuvers. It was terrifying for Greg (my boyfriend) not for Greg (the instructor.)
If you want to find out how you can have an introductory flight for $49 go to www.flycfa.com or call California Flight Academy at (619) 448-2212.
